In the HSVA archive we found this nice picture showing a ship model in the HYKAT (Hydrodynamic and cavitation tunnel) with the (illuminated) acoustic chamber below the measuring section. The HYKAT of HSVA has especially been designed with focus on its hydro-acoustic abilities. Due to its very low self-noise level - around 20dB lower than standard cavitation tunnels – it offers best conditions to measure propeller radiated noise. The results give foresight of the real ship’s and offshore structure’s underwater noise level.
